PSYCH-K is a simple, well-established process for changing limiting beliefs, releasing emotions and stuck trauma — at the subconscious level, where those patterns actually live. It was developed by Robert Williams in 1988 and became widely known through cell biologist Dr. Bruce Lipton's work on how beliefs affect our biology. This page explains how it works, what a session feels like, and why the change holds.
Why healing isn't just physical
So much of what shows up in the body starts somewhere emotional. Old stress. Past experiences still running in the background. Beliefs you picked up years ago that quietly shape how you react, what you expect, and even how your body functions.
You can eat well, take the right supplements, and do everything "right" physically — and still feel stuck, because the pattern underneath hasn't moved. That's the piece PSYCH-K addresses.
The subconscious: where the patterns live
Most of what runs your day-to-day — how you respond to stress, what you believe is possible for you, the old stories from past experiences — operates below conscious awareness. You can't simply think your way out of it, because it isn't stored where thinking happens.
That's why understanding a pattern often isn't enough to change it. You can know exactly where a belief came from and still be run by it. Talking about it engages the conscious mind. PSYCH-K works with the subconscious directly.
How PSYCH-K communicates with the subconscious
PSYCH-K uses muscle testing — gentle feedback from your body — to communicate with the subconscious mind. Your body responds measurably to what your subconscious holds as true, which lets us confirm what a belief actually is, and later, that it has changed. It's the same reason this work translates so well to distance sessions: PSYCH-K facilitators muscle test remotely as standard practice.
The change itself happens through a process called a balance. A balance uses simple postures and focus to create what PSYCH-K calls a Whole-Brain State — both hemispheres of the brain working together — which is the state where the subconscious becomes receptive to a new, chosen belief. Nothing is forced. You choose the belief you want, and you stay fully present and in control the whole time.
The specific steps of a balance aren't something to study ahead of time — they're something you simply experience in session, and they're gentle. My job is to guide the process; your job is just to be there.
What a session actually looks like
We start by getting clear on what you want out of the session — the outcome you're after. Often, what isn't working in your life is the clue to the limiting beliefs or patterns underneath, so we look there together, and we get clear on what you want to shift: a stress response, a limiting belief, the weight of a past experience.
Then we do the work. And here's what surprises people: PSYCH-K is not talk therapy. You don't need to go into depth about your emotions, your stress, or your past — in fact, it's better not to. You don't have to relive anything painful to move through it. We spend our time doing the PSYCH-K process itself, and many of my clients really appreciate that.
Most people leave feeling lighter, calmer, and more like themselves. Clients often tell me they sleep better, handle stress better, and finally feel free of something that had been sitting there for years.
Why the change holds
Willpower fades because it lives in the conscious mind — and the conscious mind gets tired. A belief changed at the subconscious level doesn't need to be maintained. Once the subconscious holds the new belief, it runs automatically, the same way the old one did.
Real subconscious change also builds. One session can move something meaningful, but lasting transformation usually happens layer by layer — which is why I offer PSYCH-K as a series as well as single sessions.
PSYCH-K works from anywhere
PSYCH-K works just as well over Zoom as in person — the same process, the same experience. Distance muscle testing is standard practice among PSYCH-K facilitators worldwide, and I work with clients around the world this way.
Why I do this work
I've done thousands of PSYCH-K sessions, and it's my favorite thing I do. I love helping people change these patterns — especially when they come in truly wanting the change.
And I don't just facilitate this work — I live it. PSYCH-K is the best thing I've ever done for my own health: physical, mental, and emotional. For my relationships, my goals, my life. That's why it's woven into nearly every session I do.
Ready to experience it?
You can start with a single session or go deeper with a package — or include PSYCH-K as part of your full biofeedback session as a new client.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does PSYCH-K work?
PSYCH-K uses muscle testing to communicate with your subconscious mind, then uses a gentle process called a balance to create a Whole-Brain State — the state in which the subconscious becomes receptive to a new, chosen belief. You select the belief you want; the process helps your mind accept it at the level where your patterns actually run.
Is PSYCH-K like therapy?
No — PSYCH-K is not talk therapy. You don't need to go into depth about your emotions, stress, or past experiences, and you don't have to relive anything painful. We spend the session doing the PSYCH-K process itself, and many of my clients really appreciate that.
What is a PSYCH-K balance?
A balance is the core process of PSYCH-K — simple postures and focused attention that help both hemispheres of your brain work together, so a new belief can be accepted at the subconscious level. The steps are gentle and guided; you experience them in session rather than needing to learn them beforehand.
How is PSYCH-K different from affirmations or mindset work?
Affirmations speak to the conscious mind and often bounce off the subconscious belief underneath — you can repeat "I am calm" all day while your subconscious still holds the opposite. PSYCH-K changes the underlying belief itself, so you don't have to keep talking yourself into the new one.
Does PSYCH-K work remotely?
Yes. PSYCH-K works just as well over Zoom — the same process and the same experience, using distance muscle testing, which is standard practice among facilitators worldwide.
How many sessions will I need?
One session can move something meaningful — most people feel lighter after their first. For lasting change, subconscious work builds layer by layer, which is why I recommend a series of at least three sessions for PSYCH-K on its own.
Who does PSYCH-K with me?
I'm Kyla Phillips — a registered nurse with over 20 years of experience and a certified PSYCH-K facilitator trained through the Basic, Master, Advanced, and Health & Wellbeing programs. I've personally facilitated thousands of PSYCH-K sessions, and I combine this work with biofeedback so both the emotional and physical sides of healing are addressed.
