Electrodermal Screening (EDS) · Remote Testing
What is remote biofeedback testing?
Remote biofeedback testing is a way to have a full Electrodermal Screening (EDS) done without an office visit. You collect a small saliva sample at home and mail it in. I read your body's energetic responses from that sample, the same assessment I do in person, and then we meet over Zoom to go through your results and build your plan. It identifies where your body's energy is stressed or out of balance, and what to support first.
I'm Kyla Phillips, a registered nurse with over 20 years of experience. I've been doing biofeedback testing since 2016, trained by Dr. James Hawver, the naturopath who founded Standard Enzyme Company and developed the Vital EDS system. I work with clients all across the country this way. This page explains how it works, why it works, and what to expect.
First, how Electrodermal Screening works
Electrodermal Screening is based on a simple principle: everything in your body is energy and frequency first. Your cells, organs, and systems all carry measurable electrical activity, long before anything shows up as a symptom or a number on a lab.
Many of my clients call it biofeedback, and I've adopted that word too, because it's how people describe it. Electrodermal Screening, or EDS, is simply the more precise name for it.
If you've heard of acupuncture, you already know the map. The body's energy moves along pathways called meridians, and Electrodermal Screening reads your body's electrical responses along those pathways to see where energy is stressed, functioning low, or out of balance. It is a biofeedback-based method, but it is not the same as conventional clinical biofeedback, the kind used to train heart rate, muscle tension, or brain waves.
One way I explain it: the technology works on a similar principle to a lie detector. We're not testing whether you're telling the truth. We're reading the fact that your body holds information you're not consciously aware of, and that information produces measurable responses. We ask, your body answers.
You may have met this same approach under a different name. Electrodermal Screening (EDS) is the method I use. The Vital system I test with is also called a Certified Electrodermal Stress Analysis, or CEDSA. Electrodermal stress analysis, bioenergetic testing, meridian stress assessment, computerized electrodermal screening, and electroacupuncture according to Voll all describe the same underlying approach: reading the body's electrical responses along its energy pathways. The terms changed over the decades. The principle did not.
How it works remotely, the saliva sample
Energy medicine works from a long-standing principle: your body's energetic signature is present in your biological sample. Your saliva carries your frequencies, the same information I would read from you in person. That's what makes distance testing possible. I'm not reading the room you're in. I'm reading you.
Here's how I explain it: think of your sample as an energetic phone call to your body. Your information is stored in your energy, in your DNA, and it stays connected to you, wherever you are. And if that sounds hard to believe: two hundred years ago, a phone call across the Atlantic would have been called magic. A video call, unthinkable. Information has always traveled in ways we couldn't see yet.
The process is simple. You swab the inside of your mouth with a few cotton swabs you already have at home, seal them in a labeled bag, and mail them to my office. No kit, no equipment, nothing to buy. When your sample arrives, I run your full biofeedback analysis, upload a preview of your results to your client portal, and we meet over Zoom to go through everything and build your protocol.
How does remote EDS compare with in-person testing?
It's the same analysis, run from your sample instead of live in the office, and for many people remote is the better choice.
Part of that is convenience. But part is the testing itself: when I test from your sample, the reading isn't influenced by whatever you'd be walking into an office carrying that day, whether that's nerves, a stressful morning, or not being as hydrated as you'd like. Your body gets to speak clearly, and you can collect your sample on a day you're feeling calm and well-hydrated.
There's a practical bonus, too. Because I run your analysis before we ever meet, our entire Zoom session is spent on you. Your results, your questions, your plan. Not on watching me run equipment.
What a remote Electrodermal Screening tells you
Your results show which organ, gland, or system is asking for support, and what the priority toxin is. This is an energetic analysis rather than a diagnostic test, so what you are looking at is where your body's energy is showing stress, not a medical finding.
They also show you the order. The body heals following its own priorities, and testing reveals what those are, so your protocol addresses the right things first instead of chasing symptoms. Two people with the same complaint will often need to start in completely different places.
And they show which supplements, homeopathics, and herbs are the best energetic match for your body. Not the ones that worked for someone else, and not whatever is being talked about right now. The ones your own body responded to, according to your unique needs and your energy.
Often the first thing your body asks to address is emotional. Why emotional stress shows up as physical symptoms →
From there, you receive a customized supplement protocol with clear instructions, built for your body. Every protocol is different, because every body is different. You, your sister, and your neighbor could share the same symptom and each need something completely different underneath.
What Electrodermal Screening is not
Electrodermal Screening is not diagnostic testing, and I don't diagnose or treat medical conditions. Think of it the way acupuncture identifies patterns: I look at where your body's energy is stressed, low-functioning, or needs support, and how to optimize function. It works alongside your medical care, not in place of it.
Where this comes from
Trained by the man who built the system
Dr. James Hawver, known as Jim, was a naturopath who founded Standard Enzyme Company in 1987 in Bremen, Georgia. He trained under Dr. George Goodheart, the founder of Applied Kinesiology, and co-founded the Association of Natural Health. He encountered early electrodermal screening in the mid-1980s, and Standard Enzyme went on to develop the Vital EDS software I test with today. He passed away in 2019.
He is also the man who trained me. He was passionate, caring and brilliant, and his formulas are still part of my practice.
Who remote testing is for
It's a fit for someone who believes healing can be natural, who feels the connection between mind and body, and who's done guessing. The person who has tried the supplements, read the articles, maybe even done the labs, and still doesn't feel like themselves. If you've been looking for someone to read your body and tell you what it actually needs, in the right order, that's this.
And because it's remote, where in the US you live doesn't matter. I work with clients in states far from my Massachusetts office. The testing is the same from anywhere in the country.
I have worked with clients around the world over the years, and I'm currently accepting new clients within the United States only, because of international shipping regulations. I do still work with clients internationally for PSYCH-K.
Frequently asked questions
What is remote biofeedback testing?
Remote biofeedback testing is a full biofeedback analysis done without an office visit. You collect a saliva sample at home and mail it in; I read your body's energetic responses from the sample, then we review your results over Zoom and build your personalized protocol.
How can biofeedback work from a saliva sample?
Your body's information is stored in your DNA and in your energy, and that's what I analyze from your saliva sample. It's the same information I read in person. The sample represents you, so the analysis reads your body, your energy. When I'm testing your sample, it's like an energetic phone call to your body, which is why I can ask questions and get the same kind of responses I would with you in the room.
Is remote biofeedback testing accurate?
It's the same analysis as in-person testing, run from your sample. Many people find remote readings even clearer, because the results aren't influenced by the nerves, stress, or dehydration you might carry into an office visit. And you can collect your sample on a day you're calm and well-hydrated.
What does EDS stand for at Thrive With Wellness?
At Thrive With Wellness, EDS means Electrodermal Screening, a biofeedback-based wellness method. It reads your body's electrical responses along its energy pathways to find where energy is stressed or out of balance. It is not conventional clinical biofeedback, and it is unrelated to other uses of the abbreviation EDS.
What is EDS biofeedback?
EDS means Electrodermal Screening. It measures your body's energetic and meridian responses to assess stress and imbalance in your organs, systems, and energy pathways, the same pathways acupuncture works with. It shows where your body needs support and in what order. It is a biofeedback-based method, distinct from conventional clinical biofeedback such as heart-rate or neurofeedback training.
Is this the same as electroacupuncture according to Voll, or EAV?
It comes from the same origin. Electroacupuncture according to Voll, developed in the 1950s, is the method most of this work descends from: reading the body's electrical responses at points along its energy pathways. EDS biofeedback works on that same principle. If you had testing years ago where a practitioner touched a probe to points on your fingers and toes, or where you held a metal bar in each hand while a machine ran a scan, that's what you experienced.
Is this the same as bioenergetic testing, meridian stress assessment, or CEDSA?
Yes. Those are different names for the same approach. Practitioners and device makers have used different terms over the years, including electrodermal stress analysis, CEDSA, bioenergetic testing, meridian stress assessment, and computerized electrodermal screening. Electrodermal Screening (EDS) is the term I use. The underlying method is the same.
Do you use the Vital system?
Yes. Vital is the EDS software developed by Standard Enzyme Company, and it's what I test with. If you were tested years ago by a practitioner who used Vital, or who carried Standard Enzyme products, this is the same system.
Do you carry Standard Enzyme products?
Yes. Standard Enzyme has been part of my practice for years and I keep a full range on hand. What you receive is chosen from what your testing shows, not from a standard list. Browse the Standard Enzyme collection.

What do the results tell you?
Four things. Which organ, gland, or system is asking for support. What the priority toxin is. In what order your body wants things addressed. And which supplements, homeopathics, and herbs are the best energetic match for you, according to your unique needs and your energy.
This is an energetic analysis, not a diagnostic test. It shows where your body's energy is stressed and what it responds to, not a medical diagnosis. You leave with a customized supplement protocol and a clear action plan built for your body specifically.
Is this diagnostic?
No. Biofeedback identifies energetic patterns and imbalances, not medical diagnoses. It complements your medical care rather than replacing it.
Can I do this from anywhere?
Yes. I work with clients across the US. If you can mail an envelope, you can do remote biofeedback testing.
If this is what you have been looking for
